The chef
I grew up in a kitchen.
I'm Chef Ira Khountham. I'm Lao, I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and I've cooked my whole life.
The food I could eat every day is still what I grew up on: sunny-side-up eggs with soy sauce, sticky rice and jeaow, the Lao dipping sauce. I learned from my family first, then worked in restaurants and bars throughout my life, learning from great chefs along the way. I've traveled almost all 50 states and around the world, trying different cuisines everywhere I go.
Flavor and authenticity come first, and so do the details. I show up early, I stay late, and I make sure everything is done properly and every client is taken care of. That goes for a business lunch or a birthday party, and it went for the 250-guest wedding I recently catered, with duck, chow fun and fried rice on the menu.
The name Never Starve Again comes from starting at the bottom and working up: improving my skills and chasing my goals and dreams.
